During today's press conference in Puerto Rico for the May 5 fight in Las Vegas between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto, Mayweather took a shot at a couple of his opponent's past foes, Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito.
From The Sweet Science:
"One man has to rise to the occasion and that will be me," he said. "Floyd Mayweather is not a cheater like Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work," he said.
So there's Floyd for you, getting some attention, piggybacking off of Manny Pacquiao's name, etc., fighting Manny's leftovers.
Obviously Floyd's referencing his constant and thus far baseless claims that Pacquiao is on steroids or Filipino fighting juice or whatever the shit it is this week. Margarito? Well, he got caught trying to cheat once, so tough luck for him, he's going to continue to be called a cheater because he got caught. At least there's something to that.
I hope this isn't a line he busts out at the next two press stops, though, and I'm very interested to see how Floyd acts in New York and Los Angeles as compared to what appears to be a fairly reserved tone in Puerto Rico. The NY and LA pressers for the Ortiz fight in September saw Floyd seemingly barely awake at either stop, with NY being so dull that Ortiz tried to make the LA stop more lively with some lame trash talk.
Hopefully Mayweather doesn't choke Cotto at the weigh-in.
