Julio Cesar Chavez Jr was reportedly arrested for drunk driving in California on January 22, and has a court date set for March 16, according to RingTV.com. Top Rank has denied knowledge of the situation and hasn't made any real comment on the matter.
Chavez (44-0-1, 31 KO) faces Marco Antonio Rubio tonight with Chavez's WBC middleweight title on the line, and there are now even more questions about his preparation. He admitted to struggling to make weight for the fight, and obviously if he's being arrested for drunk driving at 4:38 in the morning two weeks before a fight, the concerns about his training seem to be pretty valid.
Will it have any effect on tonight's bout? Maybe. A lot of people already consider Rubio a very live underdog in this one, as the veteran knows his way around the ring and can punch, and Chavez has a history of not exactly training hard for every fight.
Our live coverage of the Chavez vs Rubio card begins with streaming video of the undercard and round-by-round results of the off-TV bouts. Join us tonight for what could be a very interesting evening of fights.
