Tonight at 8 p.m. EST, Showtime Extreme will bring you two or three fights from the Salido vs Lopez undercard in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bad Left Hook will be here with round-by-round coverage of these fights, followed at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime by the main card, a featherweight double-header.
Here's a quick look at the fights on the Showtime Extreme broadcast.
Lightweights, 10 Rounds
Jose Gonzalez (18-0, 13 KO) vs Hevinson Herrera (15-8-1, 10 KO)
This was originally supposed to be Daniel Attah, but he got a better offer to face Argenis Mendez in New York on March 17 (Martinez vs Macklin undercard). Gonzalez, 28, isn't a major prospect or anything, and this fight with Colombia's Herrera, 27, probably won't wind up telling us much. Herrera has no quality wins, has been stopped four times, and is 1-4 in his last fight, with the win coming over a bum who was 2-17.
Flyweights, 10 Rounds
McWilliams Arroyo (10-1, 9 KO) vs Luis Maldonado (36-7-1, 27 KO)
Maldonado was once a contender and has fought for world titles at 112 and 115, losing in those shots to Vic Darchinyan, Nonito Donaire, and Fernando Montiel. But while the 34-year-old Mexican is well past his best days at this point, he's a solid test for the 26-year-old Arroyo, who has a lot of talent. This is a true gatekeeper fight -- a win here and Arroyo goes to the next level comfortably.
Flyweights, 8 Rounds (Swing Fight)
Jonathan Gonzalez (8-0, 7 KO) vs Erickson Martell (9-3-1, 7 KO)
I've yet to see this Jonathan Gonzalez in action, so I'm hoping there's time for this one.
