Sergio Martinez will defend his world middleweight championship tomorrow night on HBO and Sky Sports against Matthew Macklin at New York's Theater at Madison Square Garden. Today, the fighters weighed in.
Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KO) came in at 157½, with Macklin (28-3, 19 KO) at 158. That's about the norm for Martinez, who has weighed 158, 158, and 157¼ for his last three fights. Macklin, it's actually his lowest weight since his 2005 loss to Jamie Moore, which was a junior middleweight fight, but I don't think anyone's really worried about it.
In the televised co-feature, super middleweights Edwin Rodriguez (20-0, 14 KO) and Don George (22-1-1, 19 KO) both came in at 166 pounds. This promises to be an explosive fight -- these guys aren't nicknamed "La Bomba" and "The Bomb" for nothing, and they might very well steal the show tomorrow. I don't know that either has star upside (I don't think they do), but they're both fighters.
