Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

Earlier this afternoon, David Haye said via Twitter that Vitali Klitschko had told RTL that the two of them would fight next, and again tried to make clear later that he (Haye) had agreed to all terms in December, before the fight was pulled off of the table a bit later.

Haye seems to feel that Klitshcko's manager Bernd Boente is against the idea, and that Vitali should -- and can -- overrule him:

(1) Just heard Bernt Boente (Vitali's manager) has retracted Vitali's agreement to fight (via SKY) Bernt obviously wants more Mormeck nights... (2) Maybe someone should tell Bernt Boente that he works for Vitali...Vitali said today he wants the fight, so why's Bernt Boente Bitching Out? (3) This is getting silly now! Vitali gave another interview via RTL (in ring) and said "I WILL be his next fight" Bernte looked pissed off haha

Klitschko also did another interview, says Haye, where he feels he misrepresented the negotiations. Haye is being very adamant about this: He says he's good to go with terms already presented. If he is, then frankly there's no reason the fight should not happen.

I know saying that will probably annoy/anger the people who think Haye doesn't deserve this fight, or hasn't earned it, or shouldn't get it simply because he's a goon, or whatever, but I really have no problem with it. I've thought ever since the entire Klitschko family vs David Haye saga began three years ago that Vitali was the better matchup for David, whose athleticism would be better served against Vitali. Now whether or not he uses it (he did not against Wladimir) is another story, but I still think that, in theory, Haye is actually about as good a challenger as there is for Vitali at the moment.

We're in a world where Hasim Rahman is about to get a title shot for no reason whatsoever. Jean Marc Mormeck just did more to embarrass heavyweight boxing than 100 Chisora vs Haye brawls could.

I guess I'm saying I hope it happens. I don't know -- I don't mind David Haye as much as some people do, and I just don't think there are better, more interesting options out there. If we're giving Tony Thompson second shots against the brothers, and gave Samuel Peter a third after Vitali turned his face into hamburger, why not Haye?
