Lem Satterfield of RingTV.com reports that the winner of tomorrow night's Brandon Rios vs Richard Abril fight will get an extra $50,000, a decision made by Top Rank not as a performance incentive (it's not about having a "good fight," like Nonito Donaire wanted to offer opponents last year), but just about winning.

Here's what Todd duBoef had to say about the bonus:

"Prizefighting is part of boxing’s heritage. In the early years of modern professional boxing, offering a bonus or 'prize' to the winner of a fight was a tradition. It added more excitement for the fighters and the fans.We wanted to bring the prize aspect back into fight game and this seemed to be the perfect platform to do it."

duBoef believes that the animosity between the fighters is already incentive enough for it to be a good fight, and the money is just a bonus.

Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO) has attempted to turn up the heat verbally, and recently questioned Rios' intelligence, since one of the big stories is Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO) hiring a nutritionist for the fight after he failed to make weight last time out:

"You know why Rios is called 'Bam Bam?' Because he has pebbles for brains. He has to pay a guy to teach him to eat right? I learned how to do that when I was three years old. He’s an idiot. I’m going to break his mouth, break his heart and break his piggy bank."

That's solid trash talk. That's the Miguel Cotto of trash talk.

Pre-bonus purses for the fight are $450,000 for Rios and $100,000 for Abril. We'll have more on the full Vegas card purses after the event.
