Brandon Rios returns to the ring tonight on Top Rank PPV in the U.S. and BoxNation in the U.K. to face Richard Abril in a 12-round bout at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The WBA lightweight belt that was supposed to be on the line is available only to Abril after Rios failed to make weight yesterday (and failed even worse a second time), and the $50,000 bonus that Top Rank put up is also available only to Abril.
Fight time: 9:00 p.m. EDT
Location: Mandalay Bay - Las Vegas, Nevada
TV channel: Top Rank PPV (US, $44.99-54.99), BoxNation (UK)
Odds: Rios was at -800 before yesterday's weigh-in fiasco, with Abril at +500 and +550. On the undercard, Mike Alvarado (-600) is a strong favorite over Mauricio Herrera (+450), and Mercito Gesta vs Oscar Cuero had no line that I saw, because the fight is a pure showcase.
Undercard: Alvarado vs Herrera and Gesta vs Cuero will be on the pay-per-view card, and Top Rank will also be streaming the preliminary fights starting at 6 p.m. EDT. We'll have live coverage of those fights, too. Notably, junior middleweight prospect Mikael Zewski (13-0, 9 KO) and junior welterweight prospect Terence Crawford (15-0, 11 KO) are in action. Ending the PPV show will be Juan Manuel Marquez vs Serhiy Fedchenko from Mexico City.
If you missed the previews for the entire show, we got those up on Thursday night, and you still have time to get familiar with the show if you're not yet. For full coverage of Rios vs Abril, click here to see what you may have missed leading up to the fight.
