Juan Manuel Marquez had no real trouble with Serhiy Fedchenko tonight in Mexico City, winning pretty easily as most everyone expected, taking a wide unanimous decision on the cards. Scores were 119-109 and 118-110 twice for Marquez.
Marquez improves to 54-6-1 (39 KO) with the win, and gains the interim WBO junior welterweight title. Fedchenko falls to 30-2 (13 KO), but may have improved his stock as a potential opponent for name fighters looking to stay busy without taking a real risk, but not fighting someone who totally lacks credibility.
Marquez will likely return on July 14 in Texas at Cowboys Stadium, possibly facing Brandon Rios, who took a complete robbery win over Richard Abril in the Vegas main event of the Top Rank PPV tonight. If Marquez vs Rios doesn't happen -- and Rios doesn't deserve it, but deserve's got nothin' to do with boxing -- then one of them may face Mike Alvarado, who won an instant classic over Mauricio Herrera tonight.
Thank you for joining us this evening for the full card.
