Floyd Mayweather Jr meets Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, live on HBO pay-per-view in the U.S. and BoxNation in the U.K., the latter of which has helpfully uploaded the official four-minute promo video from the recent press conferences. So here's that!
I won't bother with pointing out all the goofy lies. I do love to do so, because I find it humorous (not because I think I'm exposing DA TRUTHS!), but we all know what these two fights are, and what they're not. I'm looking forward to both. (Yes, I've been talked into looking forward to Canelo vs Mosley on some level, even though I think it will go down just as I suspect. Blame Ryan Bivins.)
Mayweather (42-0, 26 KO) and Cotto (37-2, 30 KO) pretty much sell this fight on name value. They're clearly not trying to sell it with their press conference quotes or their HBO Face Off. They're just selling it because they're both real stars. I worry if this is too much of a "well it's a business" fight for my liking when all is said and done -- like, is there real hunger to win here, or are we just going to work with these guys for the low low price of $70 or whatever?
I mean, I get that it's a business, but I still do like my fights with passion and grit and the burning desire to be the best and all that romantic bullshit.
