After Manny Pacquiao's controversial decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in November, there were some boxing fans that were calling for an immediate rematch to remedy the supposed injustice. Yet, after another round of negotiations with Floyd Mayweather failed, Manny Pacquiao's team decided to go after Tim Bradley and deny Juan Manuel Marquez a fourth fight. Now a report from Ronnie Nathanielsz suggests that Team Pacquiao may be pursuing another fight with his archrival. According to Manny Pacquiao's advisor Michael Koncz, the plan was always to have one final fight with Marquez.
"[After] discussing the financials with some Showtime and HBO executives and then talking to Manny about it we decided it was better to do Bradley now and then entertain doing Marquez in the fall. [If Floyd] is available and wants to fight we'll do Mayweather, if not we are certainly looking forward to having one final fight with Marquez."
Koncz conceded that out of their three fights "the last one was the most controversial. We are not going to make excuses but Manny wasn't a hundred percent in that fight."
The last statement from Koncz is pure gold. We are not going to make excuses but here is an excuse why Manny didn't look so good. One of the interesting aspects of these statements is that they don't seem to depend on the result of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight. It seems that Marquez would want a fight with Manny even if Manny loses to Bradley.
For Marquez it seems to be a matter of pride, not necessarily a need to fight the absolute best fighter. He needs to prove that he can beat Manny Pacquiao not only in the eyes of the fans, but officially in the record book. I wonder if Marquez will still have the demand that the potential fourth fight not take place in Vegas, because he thinks Vegas judges are corrupt. I wouldn't mind seeing another match between these two warriors because it seems that they always have close, exciting fights. What are your thoughts on a potential fourth fight? One too many or just can't get enough?
