Denis Lebedev vs Shawn Cox: Live Results and Round-By-Round Coverage

Denis Lebedev faces Shawn Cox today in Russia.

Denis Lebedev faces Shawn Cox for the interim WBA cruiserweight title today at Noon EDT from Myakinino, Russia, and BoxNation in the U.K. has the fight televised. Bad Left Hook will be here with live, round-by-round coverage of the show.

The main event looks like another Lebedev wipeout on paper. The 32-year-old Russian has, for whatever reason, scaled back his competition pretty significantly since a controversial points loss to Marco Huck in December 2010. Last year, he beat ancient Americans Roy Jones Jr and James Toney in a pair of fights in Moscow, with Jones brutally knocked out in the 10th and final round, and Toney barely able to stand on two legs through an embarrassing performance in November.

Lebedev (23-1, 17 KO) is at least allegedly looking to land a rematch with Huck, but he's trying to get there by taking absolutely no risks whatsoever. Cox (16-1, 15 KO) is an unknown, though -- a 37-year-old southpaw from Barbados, he demolished Wayne Braithwaite in his last fight on February 25, knocking him down three times and ending the fight in the first round. Braithwaite isn't exactly the fighter he was years ago, but to stop him in one is something, at least.

Who knows? Maybe Lededev and his team have picked the wrong patsy here. I know nothing about Shawn Cox, really. And when so little is known, you can get some surprises.

On the undercard, unbeaten super bantamweight Alexander "Sasha" Bakhtin (28-0, 11 KO) faces Nehomar Cermeno (20-4-1, 12 KO). Cermeno, 32, turned a lot of heads with a pair of wins over Cristian Mijares back in 2009, and while he's 1-4-1 in his last six, the losses have all been to good fighters, and three of them (two split decisions to Anselmo Moreno and one to Victor Terrazas) had at least some debate. More damning is that he was ended in three by Fernando Montiel in June 2011, and hasn't fought since October, when he went to an eight-round draw with unbeaten prospect Yoandris Salinas.
