Tickets for the June 16 fight between WBC middleweight titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Andy Lee at El Paso's Sun Bowl will be available tomorrow, May 5, at 2 p.m. EDT.
The fight has been confirmed as staying at its original venue, even after UT System officials tried to cancel the show. The cancellation ruling was met with large-scale, immediate backlash from those in El Paso, at which point the UT officials rescinded the ban, and set conditions for the fight to stay at the UTEP stadium, including a ban on alcohol sales at the event.
The main concern from government folks was that there will reportedly be different Mexican cartel leaders at the event, and even though it's been declared a neutral zone by the cartels, another issue is that Chavez is rumored to be dating the widow of the son of one of the cartel leaders, which I guess is feared could spark violence.
Despite the concerns, the border town has been noted for its excellent safety and crime records, as it consistently ranks among the very safest cities in the United States.
