Jessie Vargas easily won as expected tonight in his 10-round welterweight fight against veteran Steve Forbes on the Mayweather vs Cotto undercard, winning by unanimous decision on scores of 100-90, 98-92, and 97-93. Bad Left Hook had it 99-91 for Vargas.
Vargas (19-0, 9 KO) wasn't exactly impressive in the fight, and his lack of power showed up again. He fought with no urgency and the fight eventually turned into glorified sparring, really. Vargas landed 152 of 471 total punches (32%), compared to Forbes' anemic 63 of 553 (11%).

Vargas, 22, has a lot of work to do to become a legitimate contender, and the prospect's flaws are becoming more and more obvious as his career progresses. But he's winning, and did so tonight exactly as he should have: Easily. That he didn't take any risks or try to end the fight is a fan's worry, not a fighter's.
Forbes falls to 35-11 (11 KO).
Our live coverage of the Mayweather vs Cotto undercard continues here, with Canelo Alvarez facing Shane Mosley in a 12-round bout for the WBC junior middleweight title coming up next.
