Ortiz vs Berto II Video: Fight Camp 360 Preview

Here's a preview of the Fight Camp 360 series from Showtime covering the June 23 rematch between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto:

Without question my favorite part of this is when Victor Ortiz says, "At the end of the day, I just enjoy my outdoors."

The reason this is so funny to me is that I think it happened entirely on accident, like some kind of muscle reflex he couldn't prevent. He says "at the end of the day..." so much that it just comes out, even when there is no reason for him to be saying "at the end of the day..."

There is no good reason for him to preface "I like being outside" with "at the end of the day..." -- none at all. He has been so well-trained that whenever he speaks, he sounds as though he's entirely forgotten how to actually talk like a human being might talk. He is constantly in his boxing character, and can't just shoot the shit. Can you imagine going out for a drink with this dude anymore?

"What'll it be?"

"I'm like, whoa, OK, so you're asking me for my drink order then, huh? Alright. But at the end of the day, I'll just have a Miller Chill, you know?"

(Try to imagine his facial expression changing to exactly match his robot mood on every other word.)

Wait. Not robot. No, no. Not robot. BROBOT. Victor Ortiz is a Brobot! YES!

I can't wait for this fight, because it's going to be a good one, but if two guys in today's boxing world need to have their words highlighted less and their fights more, I don't know who they'd be. These are not charismatic talkers. Berto seems absent-minded sometimes, while Ortiz is trying to figure out which cliche to spout next.

This is probably exactly why I'll watch FC360, though. At the end of the day, I have to see what's at the end of the day.
