In a move that bends logic and even good taste, is wide open for serious criticism, and makes the fighter he trains and manages look bad, Kevin Cunningham has said that he'd like to bring Shane Mosley -- a 40-year-old fighter who just lost horribly to Canelo Alvarez and had trouble making 154 pounds, let alone 147 -- to St. Louis for an August 18 date with Devon Alexander. Alexander has that night locked up on Showtime.
Cunningham quickly went from discussing a possible fight between Alexander and new WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi into Mosley. Malignaggi is rumored to be slated for Golden Boy's October 20 debut at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center.
"We just have to fight the best available guy. The guy with the most recognizable name to the fans. ... Speaking of names I didn't think Shane Mosley did too bad tonight with Canelo. Canelo is a young guy and is supposed to be the next superstar and all of that but Shane went 12 hard rounds and was in the fight. That is another name that I would hopefully match Devon up with. That is a fight that could do big numbers, a huge gate in St. Louis."
