Keith Idec reports that Polish heavyweight star Tomasz Adamek is likely to return to the ring on September 21, a date that NBC Sports and Main Events have set aside for another show. The fight will be at the Prudential Center in Newark, where Adamek is a good local draw.

One possible opponent is Kevin Johnson, who squeaked past Albert Sosnowski yesterday and then lost to Tor Hamer int he Prizefighter finals in London.

Adamek just fought on June 16, beating Eddie Chambers by decision in Newark, live on NBC Sports. It was his second win on the series this year, as he also beat Nagy Aguilera on March 24.

After the September fight, Main Events hopes to get Adamek a shot at the WBA "regular" heavyweight title, currently held by Alexander Povetkin, but that fight isn't likely to happen this year. Povetkin faces Hasim Rahman in a terrible fight on the Haye-Chisora undercard on July 14.

If the September date goes through -- and NBC will be running boxing that night regardless -- then it's possible that Povetkin vs Adamek could happen in early 2013, if neither loses beforehand.
