Tonight at 9 p.m. EDT on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com, junior welterweight hopeful Mike Dallas Jr returns to action, headling on Friday Night Fights for his fourth straight outing.
Dallas (18-2-1, 7 KO) is hoping to bounce back from 2011 losses to Josesito Lopez and Mauricio Herrera, having hired trainer Virgil Hunter last year to right the ship. Dallas, 25, got started with a win over Miguel Gonzalez on February 17, though the opponent wasn't impressive.
Tonight he faces Javier Castro (27-4, 22 KO), a 28-year-old Mexican fighter working on a three-fight win streak, notching victories over Jesus Pabon, Javier Monserrate, and Seasoned Veteran Carlos Urias.
Tonight's co-feature will see another Virgil Hunter fighter take the ring, as middleweight prospect Brandon Gonzales (15-0, 10 KO) gets a comeback assignment against Elie Augustama (6-4, 3 KO). Gonzales hasn't fought since last October, when he escaped with a close split decision win over vet Ossie Duran on ShoBox.
The 26-year-old Augustama is probably a little bit better than his record, as in his last outing, he upset DonYil Livingston, a guy who had some hopes pinned on him. But if Gonzales is for real, and isn't too rusty, he should cruise. This one's a red flag for Glorified Sparring, though, as Gonzales may be looking to kill viewers' interest level by simply getting some rounds in, which is fine when it's done off TV.
