Ortiz vs Lopez Results: Jermell Charlo Scores Beautiful KO Punch in Fifth Round

Jermell Charlo and Denis Douglin were competitively matched tonight, and both had their moments, but it was a gorgeous right hand from Charlo that ended the fight in round five. The official time of the stoppage was 1:12 of round five.

Charlo (18-0, 9 KO) established himself as a very interesting junior middleweight prospect for sure, winning three of the first four rounds and showing an ability to adjust after Douglin (14-2, 8 KO) had a nice third round, scoring good body shots and controlling the action inside.

Charlo landed his right hand repeatedly from the get-go, and it looked early like it could have been the money punch of the fight, which indeed it was. The 1-2 combination was there for Charlo, and he showed a very strong jab in the fight, too. Douglin actually fought fairly well, but his defense was just plain bad and it was his downfall. Personally, I think it might be time for "Da Momma's Boy" to find a new trainer.

Our live coverage of Ortiz vs Lopez and Soto vs Matthysse continues here at 9 p.m. EDT, with the two main fights.
