In an unbelievable upset at the Staples Center tonight, Josesito Lopez broke Victor Ortiz's jaw and stopped him after nine rounds, when Ortiz quit in the corner. Bad Left Hook had Lopez up 87-84 at the time of stoppage, but Ortiz led on the judges' cards on scores of 86-85, 87-84, and 88-83.

It got bizarre in the fifth round, when Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO) took a cheap shot at the back of Lopez's head, at which point referee Jack Reiss put in a great performance, sternly ordering Ortiz to his corner, and then ordering him not to touch gloves when they came back to fight.

But the fight was back-and-forth, a seesaw, wild-swinging, tough battle from both men. After the fight, Ortiz congratulated Lopez and quickly went back to the dressing room, where he was shown with his busted jaw swelling up more and more, his mouth full of blood.

So much for Canelo Alvarez vs Victor Ortiz.

Lopez (30-4, 18 KO) just fought his ass off in this fight, showing no fear of Ortiz, and putting the bigger, stronger man on his bike in several rounds. Ortiz looked his usual inconsistent self, and by the fifth or sixth round, it was very clear that there was upset in the air. As Al Bernstein put it, Lopez had pixie dust on him tonight.

We'll have more on Ortiz vs Lopez tomorrow, but for now, thanks for joining us tonight. Top to bottom, this was one hell of an exciting card.

Results: Matthysse TKO-5 Soto | Charlo TKO-5 Douglin | Figueroa TKO-1 Hernandez
