Thomas Dulorme Back June 14, Opponent Named
Welterweight prospect Thomas Dulorme will be back in the ring on June 14 at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC, facing Alberto Herrera in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds, part of a Broadway Boxing card promoted by Lou DiBella.
Dulorme (14-0, 11 KO) was last seen on February 17, easily demolishing late replacement opponent Aris Ambriz on a less-than-stellar edition of ShoBox: The New Generation. He's a very strong prospect, and while Herrera (8-6-1, 5 KO) doesn't have a pretty record and probably would be considered by most a step back, well, first of all I don't think it'd be too easy to step back from Ambriz, and second of all, his W-L mark hides the fact that he's gone the distance with some pretty good young fighters like Demetrius Andrade, Alan Sanchez, and Anthony Lenk. It certainly doesn't figure to be much of a test, but for a stay-busy bout, you can do worse. And many fighters often do.
Also reportedly set for the 6/14 show: Will Rosinsky (15-1, 9 KO) vs Aaron Pryor Jr (16-5, 11 KO); Gabriel Bracero (18-1, 3 KO) vs Jermaine White (17-4, 9 KO); Sean Monaghan (13-0, 8 KO) vs Romaro Johnson (11-6-1, 6 KO); and more. Tickets are on sale, and here's the quick info on that:
Tickets are priced at $125, $85, $65 and $45, with a limited number of VIP tables also available for purchase. VIP Tickets are $150 (four seats to a table).
Tickets can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577. Call soon as tickets are already going fast and a third consecutive sellout for the Broadway Boxing series is expected.
Darren Barker to Return on September 8 in London
WBN reports that Darren Barker will make his return to the ring on September 8 at Alexandra Palace in London, as the middleweight contender will be fighting for the first time since last October, when he lost to Sergio Martinez and suffered a perforated eardrum in the process.
Barker (23-1, 14 KO) had some mild success with Martinez, sort of similar to what Matthew Macklin did in March of this year, though their approaches weren't the same, really. I think he showed he's a quality fighter, and though I will always question his stamina (which seems a real weak point for him) until it proves to be better than its reputation, I've long thought he had the skills to compete with just about anyone at 160.
No opponent has been named, but Matchroom is hoping to make a welterweight co-feature rematch between Lee Purdy (17-3-1, 10 KO) and Denton Vassell (19-0, 9 KO). Vassell, promoted by the Hatton outfit, holds the Commonwealth belt, while Purdy has the English title in his grasp at the moment. The two first met in April 2010, with Vassell winning by unanimous decision.
Argenis Mendez vs Martin Honorio II: July 21, Telefutura
Jake Donovan reports that a rematch between super featherweights Argenis Mendez and Martin Honorio is good to go for July 21, with Telefutura airing the bout on Solo Boxeo Tecate. This will give Telefutura an argument on two straight weekends for having a better main event than the premium channels have. HBO will have Adrien Broner vs Vicente Escobedo on 7/21. The next weekend, Telefutura has Celestino Caballero vs Mikey Garcia, while Showtime has Robert Guerrero vs Selcuk Aydin.
Mendez and Honorio fought in May 2010, with Mendez winning a majority decision in California. This fight will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Fla., and will be an IBF eliminator, with the winner in theory getting a shot at Juan Carlos Salgado, who holds close wins over both. Salgado beat Mendez by decision (115-110, 114-112, 114-112) last September, and Honorio by majority decision (114-112, 114-112, 113-113) on April 28.
