A lot of the talk following today's weigh-in for tomorrow night's Pacquiao vs Bradley fight is that Manny Pacquiao "doesn't look right," looks "out of shape," or just isn't in the condition we're used to seeing from the Filipino icon.
Timothy Bradley, meanwhile, was ripped as usual -- the guy's got the most muscular physique in boxing, I believe, pound-for-pound, and that was on display again today in Vegas.
But with the photo above, what do you think? (More after the jump, below the poll.)
One thing is certain: Manny weighed in at 147 pounds today. While he has fought in the welterweight division (or thereabouts) since 2008, that's a career-high weigh-in number for him. His fights from De La Hoya on have seen him weigh in at 142, 138, 144, 145¾, 144½, 145, and 143.
In most walks of life, five pounds aren't a big difference, and even smaller still would be a pound and a quarter. But in boxing, it can be a big deal. Usually Manny does look tighter, more muscular than he does here. For a guy who is all of 5'6" or so, he looks lanky, which is weird.
I'm not changing my pick, and I'm not sure that any of this will wind up meaning anything. I'll stick with Manny by unanimous decision. I expected a hard-fought bout, and think we'll still get that. But now I'm wondering if he's really as into the training as he used to be. That's just not the usual body we see on Manny at a weigh-in.
