The heavyweight gold medal final for tomorrow is set, with the semifinals completed today, wrapping up the morning session. 10 more fights are coming this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. EDT, and we'll be here. Here's the heavyweight recap.
Oleksandr Usyk (Ukraine) def. Tervel Pulev (Bulgaria), 21-5: Total domination, and this fight showed why Usyk is the No. 1 man in the world today. Pulev was floored hard in the first round and was never in this fight at all, losing the rounds 6-2, 8-2, and 7-1. There is absolutely no way that Usyk should not win the gold medal given his opponent.
Clemente Russo (Italy) def. Teymur Mammadov (Azerbaijan), 15-13: Neither of these two hug monsters belonged here, as they both clearly lost their quarterfinal matchups but got gifts anyway thanks to their incredible ability to clinch and grab and hold and cuddle. Russo actually trailed after two here and was hurt and dropped on a body shot in round two, but he won the third round 9-4 and will have at worst his second straight Olympic silver medal.
