The lightweight gold medal match on Sunday is set. Here are the results from this afternoon in London.
Vasyl Lomachenko (Ukraine) def. Yasnier Toledo (Cuba), 14-11: These two have history, and Lomachenko wins again, and deserved it. Toledo is very good, but Lomachenko is a level above "very good." This wasn't really as close as it was scored, I think, but the third round was close, and could have gone to Toledo. First two should have been wider for Lomachenko than they were, probably.
Soonchul Han (South Korea) def. Evaldas Petrauskas (Lithuania), 18-13: Lithuania's first-ever boxing medalist leaves us with a "classic" Petrauskas effort, but Han was able to neutralize him and pick him off pretty routinely. Petrauskas was one of the true joys of watching the Olympics this year, a come-forward little tank of a brawler who wouldn't take no for an answer. Han had him scouted well and executed a good gameplan.
