Stieglitz vs Abraham, ShoBox, More: Boxing TV Schedule For August 24-25

Randy Caballero headlines ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday.
Randy Caballero headlines ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday.

The final weekend of August finishes up a dull month in the pro game, before the floodgates open with tons of significant action in September and on through the rest of the year.

Friday, August 24

TyC Sports (Argentina), 8:00 p.m. EDT, Daniela Bermudez vs Olga Julio.

Direct TV (Argentina), 9:00 p.m. EDT, Mariano Robledo vs Oscar Nunez.

Showtime, 11:00 p.m. EDT, Randy Caballero vs Manuel Roman, Michael Perez vs Fidel Maldonado Jr. 21-year-old Caballero, a bantamweight prospect, has had some minor push so far, and now has a headline slot on ShoBox. Roman, 24, has had no such push, but he's been a sparring partner for the likes of Abner Mares and Daniel Ponce De Leon. His record (15-1-3, 6 KO) doesn't have a lot of weight to it, but Caballero is still a little green, and it's the right kind of fight for him at the moment. Perez (16-1-1, 10 KO) is still bouncing back from his exciting January loss to Omar Figueroa on ShoBox. Maldonado (13-1, 10 KO) is at an early make-or-break stage himself, as he was stopped in two in his last fight.

Stieglitz_vs_abraham_poster_medium Saturday, August 25

BoxNation (UK) / ARD (Germany), 2:30 p.m. EDT, Robert Stieglitz vs Arthur Abraham, Robin Krasniqi vs Serdar Sahin, Jack Culcay vs Frederic Serre, Dustin Dirks vs Sandro Siproshvili. Stieglitz is making what should be a tough defense here and it's worth wondering if maybe we haven't underrated Abraham a bit by seeing him as overrated for losing to some really, really good 168-pound fighters in Ward, Froch, and Dirrell. Is Stieglitz closer to their level, or closer to the level of Piotr Wilczewski, Mahir Oral, Lajuan Simon, etc. -- my guess is the latter, and that Stieglitz's forgettable title reign ends here.

Krasniqi you may recall from nearly landing a world title shot against Nathan Cleverly, which was typically hilarious. Culcay is a short junior middleweight prospect taking his standard level of fight, and Dirks you might know from numerous German undercard appearances like this one. I think Dirks, a middleweight, has the potential to someday win a paper title. I mean, after all, Stieglitz has one.

TyC Sports (Argentina), 8:00 p.m. EDT, Ezequiel Maderna vs Oscar Veliz.

CadenaTres (Mexico), 10:00 p.m. EDT, Hector Morales vs Hugo Partida.

Televisa (Mexico) / Fox Deportes (USA), 10:00 p.m. EDT, Roberto Ortiz vs Florencio Castellano.

Telefutura, 11:00 p.m. EDT, Alan Sanchez vs Manuel Leyva.
