American heavyweight prospect and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Deontay Wilder headlines a show in Mobile, Alabama, tonight on FOX Sports Net and FOX Deportes at 10 p.m. EDT. Bad Left Hook will be here with live round-by-round coverage of the double-header.
In the main event, Wilder (23-0, 23 KO) takes at least a small step up in competition against Kerston Manswell (22-5, 17 KO), a 35-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago who has been in the ring and lost to Ruslan Chagaev, Alexander Ustinov, Cedric Boswell, Bermane Stiverne, and Mike Perez. He's been stopped twice, against Ustinov and Stiverne.
Wilder, 26, has been brought along extremely slowly as a pro. The 6'7" "Bronze Bomber" has physical tools, but can still be awkward in the ring and is very lean, coming in usually around 220 pounds. But he did weigh in at a career-high 228½ for this fight, which may mean that they're trying to get more bulk on him.
Wilder vs Manswell is scheduled for 10 rounds. Wilder has never gone beyond the fourth, and recently said he's getting a bit impatient with his level of opposition.
In the co-feature, Puerto Rican featherweight prospect Jayson Velez (18-0, 13 KO) will take on Dominican veteran Leivi Brea (19-9-3, 10 KO). Brea, 35, hasn't fought since March 2011, and hasn't beaten anyone with a win on his record since 2006.
