Lightweight, middleweight, and super heavyweight quarterfinals in London begin this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. EDT. We'll have lives results and round-by-round coverage.
[ Women's Results: Quarterfinals ]
Top three fights/reasons to watch this afternoon:
1. (Middleweight) Adem Kilicci (Turkey) vs Ryoto Murata (Japan) - These guys have both been impressive so far, and though Murata is the two-seed, I think this one looks like a fairly even fight going in.
2. (Lightweight) Vasyl Lomachenko (Ukraine) vs Felix Verdejo (Puerto Rico) - Verdejo has been terrific in his first two fights, and now we see just how good he might be, as he faces the world's best amateur boxer. Lomachenko is the deserving heavy favorite here, but I'm really interested in this one. Verdejo can fight.
3. (Middleweight) Anthony Ogogo (Great Britain) vs Stefan Hartel (Germany) - Hartel has outclassed two straight opponents to get here, but Ogogo upset the top-seeded Ievgen Khytrov of Ukraine in round two, though it did have many questioning the scoring (and many who were OK with it, to be fair). The venue should be rocking, and I expect another close fight. I've been very impressed with Stefan Hartel, but Ogogo is giving gargantuan efforts in London.
4. (Super Heavyweight) Zhang Zhilei (China) vs Anthony Joshua (Great Britain) - OK, another one. Joshua has had one hell of a draw here, and was lucky to get past Erislandy Savon of Cuba in the first round. Now he gets the 2008 silver medalist.
