Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

Tonight at 10 pm EDT on ESPN2, we'll have some in-ring action on a Thursday night, as Top Rank has a show at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas to serve as a lead-in for their Chavez Jr vs Martinez fight on Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center, and for boxing fans, it's the lead-in for what is going to be a crazy weekend overall, with Canelo vs Lopez also scheduled for Saturday in Vegas at the MGM Grand.

In the main event this evening, former Mayweather Promotions welterweight prospect Jessie Vargas (19-0, 9 KO) will make his Top Rank debut against Aaron Martinez (18-1-1, 4 KO) in a 10-round bout. It's a solid fight for the level, with Vargas taking on a guy who can fight. It's really kind of an ideal Friday Night Fights/ShoBox-level main event.

The 23-year-old Vargas last fought on May 5, when he easily defeated worn-down veteran Steve Forbes by decision.

In the co-feature, Puerto Rican super featherweight Luis Cruz (20-1, 16 KO) will look to move forward against Jose Felix Jr (20-0-1, 17 KO). Cruz is flawed but has some upside, while Felix is a 20-year-old Mexican with zero notable fights thus far in his career.

We'll have live round-by-round coverage assuming I don't nap through my alarm. I'm just being real here -- it could happen.
