Saturday's Showtime boxing card from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, featuring the Canelo Alvarez vs Josesito Lopez main event, did a live gate of $1,618,150, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Canelo vs Lopez had 12,860 tickets sold, with zero available that went unsold, and 1,659 comps.

Prior to the show, I bitched about Golden Boy claiming a sellout when they didn't have one, but they wound up with a technical sellout here, leaving no tickets unsold. I'm happy to have overreacted and been wrong in the end. That's fine with me. They brought it home with a late surge and helped create a really special night for boxing on Saturday, and it's terrific that fans showed up for both big shows this weekend.

We'll have the numbers from the Chavez Jr vs Martinez show up very shortly, but hats off to Golden Boy and Showtime, and to Canelo Alvarez. If you wonder why he gets to call some shots already, this is why. The kid's a star, and people want to see him fight.
