Today at 3:30 pm EDT, BoxNation will go live from the SECC in Glasgow, with Ricky Burns (34-2, 9 KO) defending the WBO lightweight title against Kevin Mitchell (33-1, 24 KO), in another fight where we're seeing two of the best fighters in a division, in a good fight that makes sense for both parties. What's with boxing this month, anyway?
The undercard is rather poor, so until the main event goes live, we'll be on a separate post for the Frampton vs Molitor card, which will stream live on ESPN3 in the States, and air on Sky Sports in the UK. Speaking of live streams, those in the UK can watch Burns vs Mitchell on Livesport.TV, where you can subscribe to BoxNation content.
If all works out perfectly, we'll cover both main events. If not, we're definitely covering the Burns-Mitchell main event here. That's our focus for the afternoon.
Dave Oakes previewed the fight for us, and here's a snip of that:
This is a 50-50 fight, Burns is rightly the betting favourite, his recent performances have justified that, he’s performed consistently well in all of his world title bouts. With that in mind, Burns should be the pick here. The thing is, I’ve always thought Mitchell was a little bit special, he’s got his faults but when he’s on form, he really is an exceptional fighter. I’ve got a feeling he’ll produce a performance similar to the John Murray one, I’m not sure he’ll stop Burns but I believe he’ll do enough to take it on points, even in Burns’ backyard.
