Vic Darchinyan pulled a vintage performance out in his super bantamweight debut, dominating prospect Luis Del Valle over 10 rounds en route to an unanimous decision victory on HBO.

Vic Darchinyan is 36 years old and is a blown-up flyweight, but he proved to have way more than enough left in the tank tonight in his super bantamweight debut, dominating prospect Luis Del Valle en route to an unanimous decision win on HBO Boxing After Dark.

Official scores were 99-91, 99-91, and 96-94 for Darchinyan, with the latter card being way closer than it should have been. Bad Left Hook scored it 99-91 for Darchinyan, giving him the first eight rounds and the 10th round, with Del Valle taking only the ninth, when he briefly had Darchinyan hurt.

Combined with Antonin Decarie wailing on Alex Perez, it's been a rough start for the "showcased" prospects on tonight's Boxing After Dark. Both Perez and Del Valle (16-1, 11 KO) seemed dumbfounded by the level of opponent they were in with, with neither prospect ever really figuring out his more experienced foe. For Perez, it led to a TKO loss. For Del Valle, it was just a one-sided decision in a fight he was never really in.

Final HBO stats had Darchinyan landing 227/552 total punches (41%), including a big 205/381 (54%) on power shot. He was his usual self, but the really good version of Darchinyan who does box around all his wild haymakers and goofy angles and deranged crab style.

The main event on HBO Boxing After Dark is next, with Edwin Rodriguez facing Jason Escalera in a super middleweight bout. Join the discussion thread!
