Light heavyweight contender Gabriel Campillo faces hopeful contender and top prospect Sergey Kovalev tomorrow night in the main event of the first NBC Sports Fight Night card of 2013, and the fighters will weigh in today at 5:30 pm EST. You can watch the stream here on Bad Left Hook.
Campillo (21-4-1, 8 KO) hasn't fought since being robbed in Texas against Tavoris Cloud last February, but the tricky Spanish southpaw remains one of the most difficult fighters to contend with in the 175-pound division, with an argument that he might actually be the best in the world right now.
But Cloud did tap Campillo's chin, scoring a pair of first round knockdowns in that fight, and Kovalev (19-0-1, 17 KO) has power to lean on if all else fails. The 29-year-old Russian is looking to put himself into the race in a division that has vulnerable champions, and a convincing win over Campillo would say a lot about him.
In the televised co-feature, Elvin Ayala (26-5-1, 12 KO) will face Curtis Stevens (22-3, 16 KO) in a 10-round middleweight bout.
