Lucas Matthysse has built up a loyal hardcore fanbase, and has solidified himself as a top contender in the 140-pound division. Now, he says that if WBC and WBA champ Danny Garcia avoids him any further, then Garcia will be ducking him.
From BoxingScene.com:
"He knows that he has to fight me. If he doesn't fight me after Judah and fights Khan or anyone else then yes he would be ducking me. There is no other way about it. Hopefully that doesn't happen though and he fights me."
Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO) is expected to win rather handily this Saturday night when he faces Mike Dallas Jr on Showtime, and Garcia (25-0, 16 KO) is a pretty heavy favorite in his next fight on February 9 when he faces Zab Judah, also on Showtime.
If the two win, the most desired fight at 140, for serious boxing fans -- and these are not guys who have big "casual fan" opportunities about to come up, so this should matter in this case -- is Garcia vs Matthysse. They're in their prime, have both broken out and earned respect, and at the moment, they appear to be the top two fighters in the world at 140 pounds.
