Tonight at 9 pm EST on ESPN2, ESPN Friday Night Fights returns from the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. The card will overlap with the ShoBox event starting at 10 pm EST, but we'll have separate threads set up for those hoping to avoid spoilers on either show. Both main events should be covered live, however.
In the Friday Night Fights main event tonight, former junior middleweight titlist and middleweight title challenger Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-1-1, 24 KO) faces tough Texan Brian Vera (21-6, 12 KO) in a middleweight fight scheduled for 12 rounds.
Dzinziruk, 36, has moved his career to the United States in recent years, going 1-1-1 in his last three fights, with the loss coming to Sergio Martinez. He beat Daniel Dawson and last time out, drew with Puerto Rican prospect Jonathan Gonzalez on HBO.
Vera, 31, has a couple of wins over Sergio Mora, split a pair of fights with Andy Lee, and always brings the action. He's a gritty competitor who makes up for a lack of big natural talent with a lot of fighting spirit.
In the co-feature, Canadian 140-pound prospect Tony Luis (15-0, 7 KO) will face Jose Hernandez (13-6-1, 5 KO) in a 10-round bout. Luis was originally to face Miguel Gonzalez, who came down with the flu.
