Rocky Martinez will be back on April 13, part of the HBO-televised card headlined by Nonito Donaire vs Guillermo Rigondeaux, defending his WBO super featherweight title. Three opponents are on his mind, and they're all potentially strong matchups.
"I have not sat down with my promoter to know the exact details but [Diego] Magdaleno, [Orlando] Salido or a rematch with [Juan Carlos] Burgos [are possibilities]. Everything depends on the business and if there is a good deal. [My next fight] should be on April 13."
Martinez (26-1-2, 16 KO) is coming off of a questionable draw against Burgos on January 19, a fight that opened a strong first HBO broadcast of 2013. The WBO may order a rematch there, and say they're still reviewing the fight and its scoring. Burgos (30-1-1, 20 KO) definitely wants the rematch.
Salido (39-12-2, 27 KO) lost on that January 19 card, falling to Mikey Garcia in the main event, and says he's aiming to move up and face Martinez. But Salido has also said he'd like to delay that until later in the year, and take a bounce-back fight in May.
Magdaleno (23-0, 9 KO) has been spinning his wheels for a bit. The 26-year-old Vegas prospect has been eased along by Top Rank as they've perhaps waited for an opening. This may be that opening. Martinez is a good, rugged, and beatable fighter, and has some notoriety right now.
Of the three, which would you most like to see happen?
