Alvarado vs Provodnikov: Get to know the HBO main event fighters

Mike Alvarado and Ruslan Provodnikov are one day out from an expected war in Denver. HBO profiles both of these exciting fighters.

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO) may have lost his March challenge against Timothy Bradley for the WBO welterweight title, but the 29-year-old Russian warrior came out of that fight a bigger star than he'd ever been before, giving Bradley hell for 12 vicious rounds in the fight that still seems to be leading the Fight of the Year race. Tomorrow night, he returns to HBO to face Mike Alvarado.

Alvarado (34-1, 23 KO) has had a long and winding road to get to where he is, with his career starting and stopping a few times due to issues outside the ring. Apparently settled down now, the 33-year-old "Mile High Mike" is the A-side headline on HBO for the first time in his career, following a pair of classics against Brandon Rios that lived up to the hype.
