Kell Brook is back in action today as the British welterweight contender looks to stay unbeaten and likely close his 2013 campaign with a win over Vyacheslav Senchenko, who re-retired Ricky Hatton one year ago in Manchester. Today's fight will see Brook with hometown advantage in Sheffield.
The fights will air on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and AWE (formerly WealthTV) in the United States. U.S. viewers can stream at awetv.com if they are subscribers. Sky Sports will go live at 1:00 pm EDT on Sky Sports 3 for preliminary bouts, then move to Sky Sports 1 at 3:00 pm EDT. So 3's at 1 and 1's at 3, got it?
Brook (30-0, 20 KO) was slated to face IBF titlist Devon Alexander in the first quarter of this year, but the fight was postponed two times before finally getting canceled outright. Instead of his first world title shot, Brook rematched and dominated Carson Jones in July, his only fight of the year.
Senchenko (34-1, 23 KO) fought a tune-up in August, but has otherwise been on the sidelines waiting for a payday since beating Hatton, and he's got it with this fight.
The Sky Sports 1 undercard will also see 2012 gold medalist heavyweight Anthony Joshua returning for his second pro fight. Joshua (1-0, 1 KO) made his pro debut three weeks ago, and today will face Paul Butlin (14-19, 3 KO). The big prospect is also tentatively slated to fight on November 14, November 23, and December 14 to close out the year.
Brian Rose (24-1-1, 7 KO) will also fight today, facing Argentina's Javier Maciel (27-2, 20 KO). This is a solid fight. Rose is a likable, hard-working fighter, but I hesitate to say he's levels above Maciel. This could be a trap fight for the Brit.
On the prelim show on Sky Sports 3, Khalid Yafai, Scott Jenkins, and Callum Smith will all be in action.
BLH will have live coverage this afternoon, so join us!
