Miguel Cotto looking to finalize next opponent by end of 2013

Will Miguel Cotto stay at Top Rank and HBO for his next fight, or jump back to Golden Boy and Showtime? The free agent has lucrative options either way.

According to Miguel Rivera at BoxingScene.com, Miguel Cotto and his team are hoping to have their first fight of 2014 set by the end of 2013, as they look to capitalize on a refreshed reset that came with their October 5 win over Delvin Rodriguez on HBO, making the Puerto Rican star once again a big fight option for any number of names.

Gabriel Penagaricano, Cotto's legal adviser, is also making clear that Miguel remains strictly a free agent, and can negotiate with either Top Rank or Golden Boy. Cotto (38-4, 31 KO) previously stated a desire to end his career working with Top Rank, who brought him into the pro ranks and guided his highly-successful career, but with major renewed interest in a Cotto vs Canelo Alvarez fight, Golden Boy is certainly in the mix, and can probably offer the biggest money fight. Canelo wants that fight, and already has a return date of March 8. Martinez is still sidelined due to injury at the moment.

The other possibility is Sergio Martinez, a fight that HBO wants and can be made fairly easily, by all accounts.
