Is it too easy to say Yuriorkis Gamboa has been doing more fighting outside of a boxing ring than inside?
For the second time since 2011, Gamboa has been arrested with a domestic violence charge against his ex-wife, the mother of two of his children. Gamboa already posted his $4500 bond on Thursday and will likely be released Friday according to Dan Rafael's report on ESPN.com.
Rafael was able to speak with Gamboa's attorney, Tony Gonzalez, who had this to say:
"There's an allegation that was sufficient enough to get him arrested, but we're not ready to make any statement yet. This is recent and unexpected. It's two misdemeanor counts, not felony charges. We're going to deal with. I haven't had a chance to talk to (Gamboa) yet in any detail, only briefly when we were at the courthouse.
"Until we get a little further along and see what's going on we have no comment on it. We'll deal with it. If there's any light at the end of the tunnel it's that we're dealing with misdemeanor charges. I'm not downplaying misdemeanor charges. Anything like this is serious, but there's two sides to every story."
Although Gamboa was arrested for the same thing in 2011, in fairness to him, he was never convicted. It does bring up red flags, however, if it's happened before with the same individual.
Gamboa has not fought since June when he looked pedestrian while earning a decision over Darleys Perez. At 31, with a style so predicated on speed, Gamboa can ill-afford to lose any time to a prison sentence or the general distraction of going to court, even if he is innocent.
