In a brief interview with Chris Robinson of HustleBoss.com, the legendary Roy Jones Jr says that his fellow HBO analyst Andre Ward, who fights tonight against Edwin Rodriguez, would have been a threat to him if he were around when Jones was dominating the sport in the 1990s.
"Of course," Jones says, when asked if Ward would have given him a tough fight. Jones also says that Ward is probably the second-best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, which is the general feeling of most fans and media, it seems.
What do you think about the Ward-Jones fantasy matchup? It's been said often that if Roy Jones Jr had stayed longer in the then-young super middleweight division, he would stand as easily the best in that division's history, a claim that probably goes to Joe Calzaghe right now, as Calzaghe had the lengthiest run as the top guy in division history.
Here's the matchup: 168 pounds, 12 rounds, neutral ground, neutral officials, both fighters in peak condition, Roy Jones Jr vs Andre Ward.
Would Jones' speed and unpredictable angles have been too much for Ward, or would Andre's defense and rugged inside game have gotten to Roy? Who would you pick to win this fantasy fight?
