Vyacheslav Glazkov got past short-notice opponent Garrett Wilson and lightweight prospect Karl Dargan stayed unbeaten this afternoon from the Turning Stone Resort Casino on NBC, winning wide 10-round decisions.
Glazkov (16-0-1, 11 KO) won on scores of 97-93, 98-92, and 99-91. BLH had it 99-91 for Glazkov. Wilson (13-7-1, 7 KO) was outsized, as the 5'9" natural cruiserweight gave up plenty of height to the 6'3" "Czar" Glazkov, who was able to largely control the fight with his jab and a very basic, very efficient approach.
Wilson had just a few days notice for this bout after Tomasz Adamek dropped out due to flu-like symptoms, and he did what you would hope he would do. He came out swinging from the heels looking to land the knockout blow, but he just wasn't able to get that one big shot he needed to perhaps give himself that chance. It was an admirable effort though, and as usual, Wilson showed he's a better fighter than his record indicates.
In the co-feature, Dargan improved to 14-0 (7 KO) with a rout of Mike Brooks, who dropped to 10-1-1 (2 KO). Dargan was clearly too fast and too skilled for Brooks from the get-go, but he never really put a stamp on this fight, either, never kicked it into another gear. For much of the fight, it was the gutsy Long Islander Brooks who was coming forward and trying to make a fight of it, even though he hadn't the punching power to do much in this fight. Like Wilson, he gave a good effort but was just overmatched.
