Tonight at 10 pm ET on HBO, Gennady Golovkin returns to the ring to face Curtis "Showtime" Stevens in what promises to be a hard-hitting middleweight main event from the Theater at Madison Square Garden. BLH will be here with round-by-round coverage and immediate post-fight results.
Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO) will be defending the WBA middleweight title, while this is the first world title shot for Brooklyn's Stevens (25-3, 18 KO), a major underdog who figures only to have a puncher's chance, but he's quite a puncher, so it's something. Golovkin appears to be one of the building blocks for the new brand of HBO boxing, and looks to keep winning and winning in exciting, brutal fashion.
In the 10-round heavyweight co-feature, Cuban Mike Perez (19-0, 12 KO) will face hard-hitting Magomed Abdusalamov (18-0, 18 KO) in a prospect showdown where one man should emerge a contender. Abdusalamov, a Sampson Lewkowicz Discovery, can really thump, but has shown vulnerability in some fights. Perez appears the more complete fighter, but it's a good test for both men tonight.
