Floyd Mayweather Sr was impressed enough to give Manny Pacquiao some props for his win over Brandon Rios, but he also feels that Pacquiao was able to look so good because Rios simply can't fight, and that a win over the Oxnard brawler doesn't qualify Manny for a fight with Floyd Mayweather.
"Brandon Rios can't fight and that's my honest opinion, based on what I just saw from him. I don't see no skills, I don't see no knowledge of boxing. I think Manny looked very, very good against him. Manny moved how he wanted to. He touched him when he wanted to. Manny was doing everything, moving side to side, giving him angles and cracking him. The dude to me didn't win a round. It was a total shutout. ... The way [Rios] was running his mouth, I thought he was a bad motherfucker. I wanted to see what the fuck he could do. I thought this motherfucker would really put something down man. This motherfucker started off running with his hands tucked above his head. Come on man, that was a comedy act."
The elder Floyd says that Manny will need to beat Robert Guerrero or Canelo Alvarez to get the big fight:
"If he whoops one of them, then it's time to get it on. That's what he better do. If he wants to have any chance [of getting Floyd], he better whoop one of them."
Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO) and Mayweather (45-0, 26 KO) have been dancing around a fight since 2009, and it's no closer now than it's ever been. If anything, given the division between Top Rank and Golden Boy/Al Haymon getting even larger, and the legitimate rivalry between HBO and Showtime, it's further away than it ever was before.
