It was instantly bound to be a Twitter hit and a potential meme, and in case you missed it, we've got you covered. Check out the reaction of Curtis Stevens in round two tonight, when he tastes the left hook thunder of Gennady Golovkin:
[ Recap: Golovkin stops Stevens after eight ]
Stevens (25-4, 18 KO) did get up and not only survived the round, which had 15 crucial seconds remaining, but he fought bravely until the end of the eighth round, when the referee and his corner decided to stop the fight, as Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO) was simply putting a beating on him at that point. Here are the final moments of the HBO main event:
Golovkin improves to 4-0 on the year, and HBO was talking him up as a potential Fighter of the Year candidate, but in reality the only guy he fought that was considered a top ten opponent at the time was Matthew Macklin. As impressive as he is, and as big a breakout star as he's becoming (and for great reasons), Fighter of the Year might be in Golovkin's future, and not coming this year.
