Welcome to the second-to-last results column for 2013 and all-time (unless someone else on this website is crazy enough to pick it up in the future). The previous column can be found here. As far as most people were concerned nothing happened in boxing this week. But I somehow still managed to watch over 50 fights from it. Four of them were world title fights too (5 if you include one that I couldn't watch). Go figure.
Nonetheless it goes without saying that this was a slow week. Just look at the title. Ancient fighters dominated, namely Omar Narvaez, Roy Jones Jr, and Glen Johnson. And I got to watch all of them. Yay for me...
But I'll get to recapping them later. Right now let's discuss the order of the stories I'm submitting to close out the year. After this there's still 1 more results column to do, but it's going to practically be empty. So I'm thinking instead of just covering fights between Dec. 22 to 28, I extend it 3 more days to include the Japanese cards on Dec. 31. Those fights happen early in the morning (my time) so I'll just release the final column after I'm done watching them. Between now and then I'll be working on "2013 Year End Awards" which I may or may not publish before my final results column. Maybe I'll just publish some of them, like the one's for women's boxing.
However, after the final results column is published, I'm immediately doing the January BLH rankings. Those will be done by Jan. 2. Afterward I'll finish the year end awards. Then, when all of that is finally done, I'll write the "Quit Counter" article I promised.
Busy busy busy. I don't get paid enough for this shit... On to the fights:

2013-12-18 Webster Hall, New York, New York, USA
Pandafeed.TV
Ievgen Khytrov TKO1 Christian Nava (2:57)
After Nava began to come on toward the end of the opening round Khytrov turned up the heat and suddenly dropped Nava with a counter left hook. Nava beat the count but was ruled unfit to continue by the referee. Thus the 2012 middleweight Olympian won his pro debut. Although Khytrov lost his first and only match of the Olympics, he entered as the #1 seed and was the reigning world champion.
Personally I felt Khytrov was a little unlucky to be eliminated by Anthony Ogogo during London 2012. Round 1 looked pretty even but was scored 5-3 Ogogo. Ogogo then clearly lost round 2 and was given 2 standing 8 counts but only lost the round by 1 point (7-6 Khytrov). In round 3 Ogogo was blowing and conveniently lost his mouthpiece midway through. Khytrov followed up by walking Ogogo down and beating him up, yet only won the round by 1 point (8-7 Khytrov). Thus the outcome was a draw, the dubious "countback" system was implemented, and Ogogo emerged victorious. It was bullshit, but such is boxing. Ogogo went on to win a Bronze medal...

Glen Johnson UD8 Bobby Gunn (80-72, 80-72, 80-72)
I attended this event and covered the full card here.

Mark Rideout D6 Eric Newell (58-56, 57-57, 57-57)

Roman Ruben Reinoso TKO3 Sergio Adrian Boltri

Christian Hammer UD10 Kevin Johnson (98-94?, 98-92?, 98-92?)
Kevin Johnson was the better technician but didn't let his hands go. What else is new?
Damir Beljo UD6 Imantas Davidaitis
Nuri Seferi DQ7 Steve Herelius
Herelius, seemingly in control of the fight, got cut and had a complete mental breakdown. He continued to fight after a break and the referee disqualified him.

Shuhei Tsuchiya TKO2 Kazutaka Takakuwa
Junior welterweights
---------------------------
2013-12-20 Resorts World Casino, Queens, New York, USA
Amir Imam KO1 Sergio Perez (0:52)
Perez went down early and opted out. A left hook to the body followed by a right hand upstairs followed by another left hook to the body put Perez down. Perez didn't seem to mind the body shots but complained about his right eye as he sat on the canvas long after the 10-count. The crowd booed. In any event Imam picked up the vacant NABA USA light welterweight title and advanced to 12-0.
Joel Diaz Jr TKO1 Tony Walker (2:27)
Ryan Martin TKO1 Eric Jamar Goodall (1:22)
Emmanuel De Jesus TKO4 Antonio Chaves Fernandez (2:54)
Nate Green UD6 Thomas Snow (57-54, 57-54, 57-54)
Green scored knockdowns in rounds 4 and 6 after tasting the canvas himself in round 1.
Donte Strayhorn TKO4 Sam Moura (1:34)

2013-12-21 Villa La Ñata Sporting Club, Benavídez, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Omar Andres Narvaez TKO7 David Carmona
Carmona was dropped in round 6 and his corner threw in the towel in round 7. He spent most of the fight with his back toward the ropes as he circled around the ring. He lost every minute of every round. Thus the great Narvaez successfully defended his WBO super flyweight title at the ripe age of 38. He's still the best junior bantamweight in the world despite being the oldest world champion in 115lb-division history.
Pablo Martin Roldan RTD5/TKO6 Maximiliano Gaston Mujica
Roldan quit quickly after round 5 but for whatever reason his corner had to throw in the towel for a second time at the start of round 6...
Victor Emilio Ramirez TKO1 Thabiso Mogale
Leandro David Esperante UD10 Julian Evaristo Aristule (97-93, 97-93, 96-94)
WBO Latino super bantamweight title
---------------------------
2013-12-21 Casino Hipodromo Agua Caliente, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico
Azteca 7
Jose Zepeda KO3 Emanuel Lopez
Light welterweight prospect Zepeda improved to 17-0.
Jose Uzcategui TKO1 Francisco Villanueva
Oscar Valdez TKO1 Cristian Barajas
The 2012 Olympian Valdez continued his unbeaten knockout streak (8-0, 8 KOs).

2013-12-21 Foro Polanco, Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico
Cadena Tres
Pablo Munguia UD10 Samuel Vargas
Welterweights
Tyler Asselstine TUD6 Luis Montano (48-47, 49-46, 49-48)
Uhh...how should I put this? For "reasons unknown" the final round was cut about 43 seconds short when Tyler Asselstine was on his way to being knocked out. The ringside commentators simply figured Montano had won the fight by TKO. Instead the fight went to the scorecards without the final round scored. Thus the Canadian won a decision while the Mexican took a stiff shaft up the ass. And this all went down in Mexico. Words really can't explain how odd this situation was...
I know I've got 1 foot into retirement but I had to upload this:
Jesus Faro TKO6 David Ramirez
Antonio Moran UD6 Eric Rosales (60-54, 60-54, 59-55)

2013-12-21 Dynamo Palace of Sports in Krylatskoye, Moscow, Russia
Boez / POCCNR 2
Roy Jones Jr UD12 Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf (118-109?, 119-108?, 120-108?)
Jones picked up a vacant World Boxing Union cruiserweight title. I write ‘a' instead of ‘the' because apparently there are multiple versions of this title...
Anyways, for a guy that's merely a shadow of his former self, he looked quite good. Benmakhlouf was dropped in round 3 and out classed over the remainder. Will Anderson Silva be next? Guess he should probably win tonight first... (UFC 168)
Dmitry Chudinov TKO6 Juan Camilo Novoa
This interim WBA middleweight title fight is sure to give the division 3 world champions merely within the WBA by early 2014. Legitimate champion Gennady Golovkin defended his title 4 times this year but apparently that wasn't enough. They've since upgraded GGG to super champion and will have Martin Murray and Jarrod Fletcher fight for the regular title on GGG's next card...
The WBA has no shame. Let me pull a Dan Rafael and hash tag it: #WBAhasnoshame. Is that better or worse than #WBCisdisgusting?
Sergey Ekimov TKO2 Konstantin Piternov
Eduard Troyanovsky TKO2 Allan Kamote
Fedor Chudinov RTD3 Francis Cheka
Ilya Rolgeyzer UD6 Ruslan Semenov
Ramal Amanov SD4 Sevak Bagdasaryan

Kiko Martinez KO9 Jeffrey Mathebula
I haven't seen the fight, which is the case for anyone that wasn't in the arena that night, but all accounts indicate that Martinez beat the living hell out of Mathebula. Even Kiko fans didn't see that coming. This dramatic career turnaround has the boxing world suspicious to say the least. But all fighters are innocent until proven guilty, so, congratulations to Kiko. He'll rate among the top 4 in his division when the next BLH rankings come out (soon). Martinez retained his IBF super bantamweight title.

Stuart Hall UD12 Vusi Malinga (116-111, 117-110, 117-110)
Malinga was dominated early and dropped at the start of round 3 but made a brilliant comeback in the 2nd half of the fight. Hall's eye was completely closed by the finish but he dug deep and arguably won both of the championship rounds. Earlier Hall clearly won rounds 1, 2, and 3. Later I thought Hall eeked out rounds 4, 11, and 12 while Malinga eeked out rounds 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10. Malinga clearly won round 9. For entertainment purposes this was very good at best but the competitive nature of it made it seem even better. It however had no business being a world title fight. Stuart Hall, now the new owner of an IBF bantamweight title, is arguably the worst major titlist in boxing.
Frankie Gavin PTS10 Bradley Pryce (99-93)
Frankie Gavin's promoter Francis Warren says he wants his man to fight Amir Khan next year. He claims Gavin is "heads and shoulders above anyone in Europe." Haha.
Dave Ryan PTS8 Paul McCloskey (77-75)
Ryan went down on a right hook to the body in round 4 but got up and won the fight off of his jab. His trainer thought it was easy but Ryan didn't expect to get the decision. This was one of the bigger upsets of the year (Ryan +550 to win).
Gary Sykes PTS8 Femi Fehintola (80-73)
Lewis Taylor PTS8 Max Maxwell (80-73)
Lewis Rees PTS8 Krzysztof Szot (80-72)

2013-12-21 Westin Bonaventure Hotel, Los Angeles, California, USA
All Star Boxing Promotions
Hamilton Ventura TKO4 Galen Brown
Cruiserweight prospect Ventura improved to 13-0-1, 11 KOs.
Charles Martin RTD4 Glendy Hernandez
Heavyweight prospect Martin did the exact same thing. Really, the records are identical... Anyways, after baiting Martin to "bring it" at the end of round 4 Hernandez apparently changed his mind and quit on his stool.
Daniel Franco UD6 Alejandro Ochoa
Celene Roman MD6 Crystal Morales
Raymond Chacon UD4 Anthony Villarreal
Leonardo Chavez KO1 Humberto Zatarain
Said El Harrak RTD2 Bernardo Guereca
Neeco Macias TKO1 Roberto Duran
Brian True TKO2 Jose Hernandez
Andrae Carthron TKO3 Helaman Olguin
Carthron was dropped twice in round 1 but didn't quit on himself and came back to return the favor in round 3. It was not pretty, but it was admirable. I cannot stress how important conditioning is in this sport...
---------------------------
#QuitCounter2013 advanced 5 notches. The new total is 208, additions in bold. I went back and added John-Vetyeka from a few weeks earlier because I saw a new version of the fight that showed Chris John in between rounds. He quit.

If a bout is not mentioned which took place on one of the above cards it’s most likely because I haven’t got around to watching it yet. In the event that I do watch such a bout at a later time it’s still unlikely I will update this results column. My columns will be posted once a week, devoted to cards that most casual American boxing fans haven’t seen or heard of. For available footage of the previously reported bouts follow @sweetboxing on twitter. You may also email the author of this piece at rgbivins@gmail.com.
