Tomorrow from Stuggart, Germany, on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and SAT.1 in Germany, Darren Barker will make the first defense of his IBF middleweight title against former three-time 160-pound titleholder Felix Sturm, in what could be Sturm's last chance at getting back to the top.
Barker (26-1, 16 KO) weighed in at 158.9 pounds for the fight, with Sturm (38-3-2, 17 KO) at 159.3. Barker won the title from Daniel Geale in August, and it was Geale who beat Sturm for the WBA title (Geale already held the IBF belt going into their fight), which was the last time Sturm held a belt.
The 34-year-old Sturm has been looking a bit past it for a while now, but that has also made him arguably a more exciting fighter to watch, as he's had recent entertaining bouts with Matthew Macklin (controversial win), Martin Murray (controversial draw), and Sam Soliman (originally a loss, changed to a controversial no-contest).
The Brits were out in a big way in Germany for the weigh-in today, too. Check out the video courtesy iFilm London:
