The scheduled March 9 WBC heavyweight eliminator between Chris Arreola and Bermane Stiverne has been postponed, according to ESPN.com, as Arreola has come down with bronchitis. The fight was set to take place in California, airing on HBO before the Hopkins-Cloud and Thurman-Zaveck fights from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Arreola-Stiverne was originally scheduled for January 26, when it was to be the co-featured for the canceled Ward-Pavlik main event. It's also yet another HBO or Showtime fight we've lost to injury or illness this year, as the list just keeps piling up. It's been a really rough year for boxing so far, but the schedule is thankfully about to pick up some (fingers crossed).
Arreola (35-2, 30 KO) hasn't fought since February 2012, falling off from a quest to stay very busy, which he did between January 2011 and his last fight, getting into the ring a total of six times. Stiverne (22-1-1, 20 KO) has only fought on HBO once, when he was unimpressive stopping Ray Austin in 2011. He hasn't fought since April 2012.
