Light heavyweight contender Tony Bellew said on Twitter that Tavoris Cloud didn't just lose to Bernard Hopkins, he basically gave away the fight and his IBF light heavyweight title to the 48-year-old star, who won via unanimous decision.
"Disappointed with Cloud I was tonight! Expected so much more from him than that. Just didn't try," Bellew said last night after the fight.
After receiving a bit of criticism, he clarified his position. "I wasn't rubbishing B-Hop's achievement last night. He's a special fighter, but Cloud just passed him that title last night. Showed no desire.
"I was sitting there just watching him basically hand the title over. No pressure, no evil intentions, no gears in his work. Easy pace for Hopkins."
Bellew (19-1, 12 KO) returns on March 30, when he faces fellow contender Isaac Chilemba with the WBC "silver" title on the line. If Bellew wins, he's hoping to land a shot at full WBC titlist Chad Dawson sometime this year.
