Canelo vs Trout: 15,000 tickets sold, 35-40,000 expected for April 20 fight

15,000 tickets have been sold in two days for Canelo Alvarez vs Austin Trout at the Alamodome in San Antonio, and a Golden Boy rep says 35-40,000 are expected to attend the event.

Golden Boy Promotions PR director Ramiro Gonzalez says that 15,000 tickets have already been sold for the April 20 Showtime fight between Canelo Alvarez and Austin Trout at the Alamodome in San Antonio, and they're expecting a big crowd on fight night.

"In two days 15,000 tickets were sold including the most expensive seats at ringside, so we expect 35 to 40 thousand spectators at the Alamodome for the fight with Trout. Now Canelo can write his own story and he will definitely have a large mass of fans on April 20 against Trout, in a fight where Saul puts his unbeaten record on and should prove to be the next world figure in boxing."

Alvarez, 22, is already one of the biggest stars in boxing, but this is the first time since his visibility has gone wide that there's unanimous agreement that he's in very, very tough fight with Austin Trout, another unbeaten titleholder at 154 pounds. If the fight sells as well as GBP is expecting -- and it probably will be at least around 30,000 -- and Alvarez can get past this significant test, he's in a position to truly become a superstar fighter.
