Rugged Texas brawler Brian Vera is back in action tonight, headlining ESPN Friday Night Fights at 9 pm EDT, this week on ESPN, rather than ESPN2.
Middleweight Vera (22-6, 13 KO) will look to win his fourth straight, as he faces 33-year-old Lithuanian Donatas Bondrovas (17-3-1, 6 KO) in a 10-round bout from the Turning Stone casino in Verona, New York. Bondrovas, fighting out of Chicago, has a light record, but this is a chance for him to upset a known, respected, veteran fighter on a nationally televised show, and he might not ever get another chance like this.
In the co-feature, light heavyweight prospects Jackson Junior (14-0, 12 KO) and Umberto Savigne (10-1, 7 KO) will meet in another 10-round bout in a Brazil vs Cuba fight that will surely bring out the words "international flavor" on the telecast.
I won't be in for the fights tonight, as Michigan is in their first sweet sixteen in a really old dog's age, so enjoy the fights tonight while I probably have a bad night watching basketball.
