Gennady Golovkin knocked out Japanese veteran Nobuhiro Ishida earlier today in Monte Carlo, a sensational, one-punch, right hand KO that put Ishida down and out. Here's the GIF:
Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO) was asked after the fight who he wanted next, and simply said, "It doesn't matter."
Is Gennady ready for the true top fighters in the division? Would you give him a shot right now against division king Sergio Martinez? And if he's going to have to (?) keep fighting middling guys at this level, how interested are you in seeing his fights picked up again by HBO, which is supposedly the plan for his next bout this summer?
There's no doubt that Golovkin has real deal talent, I don't think, but he's been bashing his way past pretty mediocre opposition. That said, the better guys he's faced (Gabriel Rosado, Grzegorz Proksa) didn't really do any better than the Ishidas and Milton Nunezes of the world.
